Yard Sales

With warm weather comes yard sales and I don’t know a better way of starting a lazy weekend morning than perusing through others unwanted things in hopes of finding something wonderful. I like unknown variables of yard sales. You might spend all morning with nothing to show, but in this way I relax into it, leaving any agenda behind and start to experience life in the moment and letting go of the need to go….go…go. Solshine just started getting an allowance and he loves shopping for toys and treasures. It’s a great way for him to practice interacting in commerce and community and he loves it as much as we do. We all disperse, perusing at our own pace, moved by what speaks to us.

Today I found a cute skirt to wear over my leggings for yoga class, Stone found a few work shirts and Solshine bought two gigantic, ugly plastic super hero figurines. We groaned at the thought of voluntarily bringing plastic toys into the house, but such is the self-autonomy of a very independent four year old. It was worth watching him pull the crumpled dollars out of his pocket and hear him called sir by the seller. (giggle)

We always see neighbors we know and meet new folks we didn’t know before. Weekends are good like that–everyone pauses and does something they like which means more smiles, more laughter and a better quality of life.

I don’t think yard sales are very common here in the UK, but we have car boot sales. It’s so much fun and there are always amazing bargains. Last time sunnyboy came home with a large plastic bus that sings a song :) It cost 25p and he thought it was the best thing ever!

I love yard sales…it’s my favorite part of spring/summer. I really respect you giving Solshine the space to engage in commerce the way he chooses! Happy shopping!
