We’ve been busy enjoying the beautiful weather this past week. It seems that each day gets better and better and like a bear stumbling groggy from her winter’s slumber with playful cubs, I find myself rubbing my eyes in disbelief, almost as though I’d forgotten how beautiful and energizing life feels when Spring graces us with her presence.
Solshine watching bees and blooms
Upstate New York can have a bad wrap for its exceptionally long and cold winters. As a native New Englander, I have come to enjoy the cycles of the seasons. I’ve learned how to hunker down and find deep comfort in the long winter, learning patience, like a full-bellied mother with child, waiting those last weeks, torn between excitement and frustration, ready for the new season of rebirth.

And then in one moment, the waiting disappears and you find yourself completely immersed in the very thing you’ve been longing for and somehow it’s even better than you imagined. There is a heightened sense of life awareness on the first warm, sunny days of spring. Every stranger seems a friend as Spring gifts us an unspoken way to relate. We communally acknowledge the exuberance that the first breath of spring effortlessly pours through our bodies, our beings and our spirits. We are alive and it is mirrored in all things blooming and new. We can’t help but become the beauty.

There is comfort knowing that the cycle will turn once again to the sweet satisfaction of warm woolens, a harvest bounty and fresh picked apples, but for right now all I can see is sweet blooms. I dream in blooms, wake to blooms and silently offer deep thanks for these seeds who carried themselves home to Spring.
