Shifting

by flowers on May 22, 2009

Yesterday was a day of shifting. After a morning of sniffly grumps we shifted our mood with some fresh air and quiet sensory play with beans and grains from the pantry. It led us right into the afternoon, but when Stone came home we were hot, stuffy and the house was a mess. Stick around and clean? Nah. We practically ran out the door, picked up some fruit popsicles at the co-op and enjoyed the sticky relief they brought as we drove to the park.

It was the perfect place to spend a warm evening. It was one of those magical moments where you know you are in the right place at the right time. Coincidentally (or not) Gretel and her family showed up for for their boy’s birthday picnic.

Afterward, we all went back to Gretel’s for birthday cake.

In a word, lovely.

I am constantly reminded of how shifting into a better feeling path brings relief and more goodness into our lives. Today everyone is feeling a little better: Was it the natural course of our sickness? The pick-me-up effect of being outdoors in nature? Laughing with good friends? Perhaps, it was a little bit of everything wonderful.

Isn’t it beautiful! I think Gretel’s aunt made it. I was pondering creating my own version of it. I haven’t quilted very much since kids though. So much to spread out in my tiny house, but I would love to. Maybe I’ll start collecting rainbow scraps.

Sounds like it ended up being a great day. That birthday cake looks good too! I find that when we have the grumps here getting outdoors in the fresh air never fails to change the mood.

Oh, and the quilt is gorgeous :)
