I think it’s time to share more of our …infinitely learning… vision with you. These past few weeks I have been pulled to work on projects and business ideas in other areas of my life and this has left me feeling confused about the blog.
I love blogging here and it often feels therapeutic. It’s a place for me stop and pause, put words to my experience and match photos with my words and emotions. It feels like I’m creating a mosaic of our every day life and I love the experience. It’s something I return to day after day and I’ve enjoyed the way we have built community around our blogs. I feel strong and supported by the wise women I communicate with through the blogosphere.
But as my interest pulls towards my passion of women’s wellness and conscious childbirth practices, I’ve questioned the energy and time I log in here. I asked myself honestly if this wasn’t something I needed to let go of to make room for other dreams in my life.
When I confronted myself with the option of throwing in the towel I received a gem of a realization. Something inside me gave out a strong, “NO! You’ve only just begun. Remember the plan?”. Hmm, what was that plan again?
So I went back and took out my notebooks from last winter when I was first dreaming up …infinitely learning… and found exactly the information I needed to move forward in this next phase of my life.
This blog was originally intended to be a long term project. We have this plan. First, we would relocate our family to a strong community that valued sustainability, arts, local, quality food, local economy, global consciousness, innovative ideas etc. (CHECK!) Then we would buy our first home downtown and live in it (as simply as possible) while we fixed it up and remodeled it to be as efficient and eco-friendly as possible. (We’re in the middle of this right now.) Then we would buy a piece of land within an hour of our small city and apply our skills of permaculture, aquaculture and off-the-grid living with our children working besides us. This plan is very exciting for us and it feels like a great way for us to learn and grow together as a family.
We will keep the downtown eco-bungalow and use it as a home base for us, rent it to like-minded folks visiting our sweet city and possibly as a sort of eco-hostel. We feel it is a win-win: provide healthy, eco-responsible housing furnished with local art and craftsmanship to the many visitors who come to our area AND receive supplemental income to help support our family while we learn the ever important skills of self-sufficiency.
I thought a blog would be a great way to create a scrapbook of the experience (without having to cut up tiny pieces of paper), help keep us organized, allow us to share our journey with others and meet other families who inspire and share knowledge with us!
I think I’ve been reading too many of those how to make your blog the best blog ever blogs (and do it fast and make money doing it!) and I became overwhelmed with thinking I needed to have x amount of posts a week with good, varied (but focused) content. I’ve been approached by a company to advertise some of their organic beauty products, but then it started to get foggy. I enjoy watching the Universe provide opportunities but in this case I think I’m going to stick to the original plan.
I am going to keep up this blog. (I just love it here.) I am, however, going to give up the idea of what a ‘good’ or ‘successful’ blog is and just do my thing. I’d like to keep up with Photo Friday and check-in at the beginning of the week with some pictures of what we’ve been up to, but besides that I’m only going to post when inspired or when we are actually doing something that applies to our focus. This way I will have more time and energy for my starting up my local business, working on my conscious birth guide and getting pre-natal yoga certified (Yipeee!).
The Official Manifesto
*Document our journey as a family making conscious decisions to find peace, art and beauty in a crazy world.
*Document our journey towards self-sufficiency and providing for ourselves outside of the system.
*Write about making peace with chaos, transforming contrast into beauty and health, learning all the time, parenting, unschooling, re-defining the new American dream, becoming conscious community members and responsible global citizens.
*Take pictures of my family, nature, my favorite things and inspiring oddities and other signs of life.
There you have it. I’m honored to have you along for the ride.

exhale. return to center.´s last blog ..the next chapter
This seems to be a theme many ladies out there are thinking about – redefining and rethinking blogging – both the returns it gives and the time it takes.
I’ve been doing the same this week, too.
Good conclusions!

So glad you are going to stick around…and tipping my hat to you for going back and revisiting and getting clear on your goals and plans. I’m finding staying fluid and being open to what works in the moment is making the world go round a whole lot easier:)
And the world needs birth guides as open, honest, and inspiring as you– so cheers to the fabulous focus of your days:)
