Holiday Cheer & a Give-Away

by flowers on December 14, 2009

Being Monday, I promised you all the final installment of the holiday give-away. There will be a give-away at the end of the post, but my planned holiday treat will be postponed a day or two while I wait for the beautiful, squishy package to come in the mail.

In the meantime I’ll catch you up on some particularly wonderful gatherings I’ve been to in the past week or two..

We walked next door, on a snowy Friday night to our neighbor’s tree trimming party. Think outside the box. These folks are a funky and fresh group of housemates and we enjoy their energy. They had a large group of friends over who were circled around a large kitchen table just covered in old book covers, magazine, ribbon, glue, and tape. People were making collage ornaments for their Charlie Brown Christmas tree. It was fun and festive and I enjoyed hanging out with new people, listening to music I’ve never heard of and just relaxing into someone else’s scene. Refreshing.

(My ornament is the last one on the right.)

Christmas Collaging

A week or so ago I went to a craft night hosted by a friend of mine. I can’t tell you how nice it was to sit with hot tea and fudge, surrounded by crafts galore. I brought my cranberries to string for the tree, because although I’ve had the best of intentions they were just not stringing themselves. It was the perfect opportunity to just sit and craft and talk with some amazing women. I have to give M big props because she is someone in our community who takes those great ideas everyone talks about and actually makes them happen. I really appreciate that about her.

Craft Night

While you wait for the surprise give-away I want to offer one of my readers a one year gift subscription to Ode magazine. If you aren’t familiar check them out. They are everything awesome. They tackle all the important issues while keeping a proactive positive attitude. I really look forward to getting my issues. They coined the term intelligent optimist which really is a good fit for me and my kind.

Leave a comment and I’ll choose a winner randomly Wednesday at noon. Good luck friends!

I’m back! I quite like reading Ode so I’ll throw my name into the hat. I’m envious of your fun community evenings out. We/I haven’t had too many of those recently.

Glad you are having fun get-togethers!

I’m already an Ode subscriber, but just wanted to second your recommendation: it’s a great magazine: encouraging, and very thought provoking. They have an interesting variety of opinion, too.

I don’t subscribe to Ode but would love to enjoy their articles more regularly. Thanks for the give-away!

Well, somebody has to do it, right? Love the shots of the studio!
OK, weird thing – I got a “we want you back” mailing from ODE just the other day, but I have never subscribed before…. que Twilight Zone theme. Universal foreshadowing, with a space-time continuum flub?

I love the idea of a craft night to do whatever you need to get done!! It’s brill.

I also realized something cool about me, you, and knitting — we are forever tied together by it because I taught you, and you are tied to whoever you teach. I find not much time goes by that I don’t think of my grandma when I’m knitting, because she taught me. And I always remember the people I taught. It’s such a cool connection, I think!
