Life Learning :: Tres Bien

So often it’s easy to focus on how our parents messed us up. Even if you’re the best parent you can be, your kid could still tell a therapist an earful. Ah, such is life.

So, in this spirit, I want to focus on the things my parents do that are amazing. Like how they just spent their summer vacation on a 10 day-French immersion program just because they want to learn French together. Could my parents possibly be that cool? (Apparently so.)

My mom is a public school teacher. She just happens to be a public school teacher who is my number one supporter for homeschooling the kids. She also keeps repeating, “We’re trying to create life learners here!” I think she’s doing an excellent job of modeling what being an infinite learner is all about- learning for the thrill of it; learning simply because it’s our human nature to want more, more, more!

So despite being middle-aged (sorry guys, I had to say it) and only having a certain amount of vacation time, they spent it with a group of strangers speaking only French for 12-14 hours a day, 10 days straight.

Pretty much my inspiration of the summer! Thanks Mom and Dad for being so incredibly cool, open and well… life learners.

(This post comes from a week of phone messages and emails in French so they could show off; I have no idea what any of the messages said)

They are due to pay off their house in the next few years and the plan is to celebrate in Paris….speaking French of course! (I know-super cool! Who would have thought?)
