Holiday Giveaway

by flowers on November 14, 2009

I’ve been planning a surprise for all of you!

Starting Monday and running for four weeks I will start the week by featuring a favorite small business of mine and we’ll be giving away some fantastic treats.

I’ve been thinking about this for some time now and I hesitate to take sponsors or advertise because that’s really not my style. However, I do think networking amongst small, ethical businesses is a must. I have a strong belief that life would improve (on many levels) for the general public if we very mindfully spent our dollars on products and services that were aligned with our own personal ethics.

I hate to break this to you, but Big Box stores don’t care about you. A small business owner does and your dollar goes directly to their quality of life. (Rather than through a slew of corporate CEO’s pockets.) What I love about supporting small, quality businesses is that I know where my dollar is going. It’s going to pay bills and and feed their families food and be passed on to other hardworking folks. I like to think that by supporting like-minded businesses my hard earned dollar is more likely to pay an electric bill for renewable energy or buy organic, sustainably grown food. In my mind it’s a whole feel good, chain reaction of do-gooding.

So here’s your chance to pass along some holiday cheer where it will truly make a difference. Every Monday you will have the opportunity to win a quality, handcrafted prize for yourself or to give away as a holiday gift and I encourage you to stop by the featured businesses to make a holiday purchase. Spread some holiday cheer!

I’ll see you on Monday.

(I have personal relationship and/or positive business experience with everyone featured and am receiving no incentives. I do not want to feed into the “more” culture, but instead want to encourage you to buy more quality and feel good about doing it.)

Disclaimer: I do occasionally shop at Target and other chain like stores (and usually feel pretty guilty through the entire process). Just letting you know to avoid any hypocrisy. My motto: Do your best. I try my best to shop local and small whenever at all possible.

I so agree– we’re blessed to live in a ton with no big box stores and we shop local for everything we can in order to keep it that way…and of course, that being said, I’ve made plenty of those guilt-laden trips through the target that’s an hour-and-a-half away;)…Doing our best is the best we can do, and what a wonderful way to promote businesses you know and love.
