We are making the very best use of our tiny urban space. Our current project is the piece of earth immediately in front of our house. It started out as our very own urban dust lot which we then prepped and installed the basic outline of our hardscape. We then installed a sandbox which has been a big hit with the kids. It keeps them safe and happy while we get the car, stroller or bike trailer packed.
Now my favorite part–you can watch Stone install a self-designed patio. I love watching him work. He is diligent, quiet and confident. This is a skill he has cultivated these past few years and it is exciting to watch his art develop.
It used to look like this.
And then he did this…
The bare earth was begging for cover so we used mulch to help with dust and bare roots. Our next step is to plant around the parameter of the space. I am thinking tall, local grasses, maybe some echinacea. I will consult with Stone’s business partner at the nursery to see what plants would thrive in the shaded, high stress environment.
We are thrilled. It feels so good to see something we’ve dreamed and talk about come to life. I’ve put out a request to the Universe for the perfect patio table and chairs and I’d like to incorporate some type of tree house or play stand for the kids to play with and I know, like everything in life, that will come in perfect timing.
For now Solshine is happy to play with our neighbor in the new space. They tell me the patio is a fairy city and so far they have a swimming pool, a hospital and a few houses. Very sweet.
