Friends

I’ve wanted to share pictures I took a few weeks back. We were out visiting our friends’ new home and land and celebrating this new beginning with them. We were lucky enough to be there when they announced they are expecting their first child and now it warms my heart to know my little one was there too, me not yet knowing we would be sharing a pregnancy with them.

Stone met A working at the nursery when we first moved to Ithaca. He loved how rooted A was in his passions for trees. He’s the type of guy who says goodnight to his saplings on his windowsill before going to bed. The reason they bought the land was so he could plant his orchards. They took us around and I felt really honored to see the land at the beginning of the journey. He plans on living in that house and taking care of the trees until he dies and knowing what I know of him–I believe it. We joked around their warm kitchen, our bellies filled with cider and stew, that we’d probably be back in that kitchen as old folks, reminiscing about the days when we were planning our dreams and having babies.

Good friends are priceless.

This post actually made me tear up a little. I have some good friends but no kindred-friends that live nearby anymore. These friends of yours sound like my friends from University, people I really related to, who I spent hours with dreaming about combining our lives, working and living off the land, sharing a rich community. And then people move away and do their thing somewhere else. Maybe this post just brings up for me how much I want to find a kindred spirit again.

Melodie, I so feel you. We have been in this new community for two years and are just starting to feel like we are making solid friends. The reason we moved here was to meet kindred spirits and live in a community where people valued the things we did. It’s a tough trade off. We moved away from family and familiarity, but there is something about finding people that feel so good that makes it so right.
