Great post!

We’re in a similar place, especially what you said about Stone’s “foggy dreams” as he works to provide. It’s so awesome being in this different place and I can’t wait to see where it takes us. I just can’t imagine getting back into this place again. The possibilities are endless and this lifestyle we’re getting ready to leave is so limiting. It just doesn’t fit our ideals anymore.

Hillary,
I often find myself in the dilemma of having to slow down my own aspirations to follow-through in the moment of my children’s childhood. I’m so task-oriented, I need to manage in time for my kids to be kids. At the same time, I often feel as though I’m losing myself and my relationship in the vacuum of childhood–after bedtime seems to be when the exhaustion hits me! I’m interested to know where you are headed with a newly refreshed goal and another wee one on the way. Balance is always a tricky business, it’ll be good to see how it can be managed!

You are right: a family is kind of like a business; lots of strategy is needed to make it run smoothly and efficiently.

I am also trying to figure out how to be true to myself and the needs of my family and try to contribute financially. Or to at least help my husband find something else that will make him a little more happy than his current job.

i had the experience of attending a strategy meeting with our UU church this week and was blown away by how positive and enjoyable a “business meeting” can be.

i too found myself wanting to bring some of these ideas back to our family and do some brainstorming about the life we are living and the changes we are working to create.

for so long my husband and i have been working towards almost in a vacuum — him at work all day and me managing the home — without really talking to each other. we were both working so hard but really kind of spinning our wheels because we just didn’t have a clear plan of where we were going.

as we’ve started talking more — and redistributing jobs so that i am starting to contribute more financially and he is starting to be more active with childcare and house-management — things are falling into place so much more easily.

i feel like renee…i could go on and on but mostly just want to say thank you for being YOU and for sharing your beautiful light with the world!!!

very, very cool. Not quite the same as you but we have inspirational evenings at home 3 days a week. But these are mostly evenings for the kids to be inspired by something Daddy is inspired about. Since he’s at work all day. Our kids are older and don’t go to bed till 8:30/9:00 so evenings aren’t alone time for Damien and I. This means I do kitchen clean up to allow Damien to spend that time with the kids, then we often all read together and then I like to work on creative projects for the last hour or so before I go to bed.

But what I really wanted to say was how inspiring this post is. I’m hoping someday you’ll share how it is you want to contribute financially to your family, or is that still very open right now? And I totally hear you on that front. I haven’t earned any money for 11 years, since Celine’s birth. But the time is right again. The baby is 7, my creative talents and gifts are growing and I want to offer them to the world with some financial benefit coming back to our family. To give Damien a bit more freedom to be grow creatively and follow his passions also, not just having to bear the burden of solely supporting our family which he has done so well since having kids.

This is long but you know I am also excited about what you’re talking about here as it relates to my own families journey. Your photo reminds me of our own inspiration board.

Ack, I gotta stop this now.

I love this post! I feel like doing some family strategizing is something my family could really benefit from, too. I’m feeling a little adrift now, and having some shared direction and clarity of purpose would really help.

I also like the idea of doing yoga in the evening. I love yoga but I don’t do it because I tell myself I don’t have the time. But I absolutely could MAKE the time in the evening, instead of frittering away time in other ways. Thanks so much for the inspiration!
