Happy Friday everyone. I don’t work a 9-5, but feeling the excitement of the collective getting revved up for the weekend is too fun to pass up. This is why I save my weekly inspirations for Friday. Here are just a few of the things that kept me happy, healthy and inspired this week.
Sustainable Community
1. Clothing Swaps: Have you been? Clothing swaps are a great (and green) way to update your wardrobe without spending a dime! It was a good opportunity to go through my closet and trade in any clothes that just haven’t been getting any love. The clothing swap I went to was quite large and after I organized my donations into the appropriate racks and bins, I went shopping. I am quite pleased with my finds: a purple hooded sweatshirt, perfectly fitting black yoga pants, the sweetest little blue knit dress and two cute skirts. If you haven’t been invited to one, maybe it’s time you threw one. Good music, a table of snacks and some wine make it an evening of fun and function.
Muthah-Zine
2. If you are a mum, dad or know anyone who is checkoutThe Hausfrau muthah-zine. My friend Gretel let me borrow a copy of the zine last year and I am hooked. I bought myself a subscription and I gave three of my girlfriends a subscription for Christmas and we are all laughing our a*&$% off together. Nicole Chaison chronicles the absurdities of mother hood in a way……well, in a way only the hausfrau can. Check out her site for her new book and if you are in the Portland area you can check out her play. If only I was so lucky.
Wise Mamas Work Together
3. I was practically pumping my fist in the air earlier this week when I received an update to exhale. return to center. I have known Erin for a few years now, and it has been exciting to watch her and her career grow. When I saw her blog post about getting together with a friend to share work, childcare and good times I couldn’t help but cheer! Go Erin, go! She took something that was frustrating her and not only found a solution, but created something wonderful.
I’d love to hear what inspired you this week.

the clothing swaps sound fun. i may have to see about organizing one locally.
hey, i just saw your widget! are you going to be at good vibrations?! i hope so!!!
There was a slight chance, but now I’m not thinking so. We might put off travel to buy land first.
we are hopefully going, land or no land. we have a budget for “educational” purposes that we intend to use. i hope the slight chance comes back. it would be great to meet in person! where do you guys live? (and where are you hoping to buy land?)
I’d love to have an education fund.
We are starting a health fund b/c we rarely use traditional doctors, but tend to neglect things like massages, homeopaths b/c of upfront money costs. I figured if we started a fund we would be more likely to invest in our wellness. The same could work for education.
I would like to think about educational stuff in the same way: music lessons, fun trips etc.
We are in Central NY and have a cute small downtown home with an apartment we rent to help cover costs. We will buy land within a half hour from here; we are shooting for city mouse/country mouse. In fact, I am about to meet your friend Miranda of ‘Fall Down to Fly’. What a small world, right? She just moved here and is motivating an active unschoolers community. I can’t wait to meet her.
OMG Miranda ROCKS! You will love her. She was my main mentor when we started unschooling and helped me thru so much just with her *presence* – she is that cool! She is so inspiring and wonderful and creative and thoughtful and just such a great person to be around. And her girls are so awesome and sweet and creative too. I’m so happy that you guys are connecting! I know she needs an unschooling community and is missing the one she started over here. (She was the group leader before she gave it over to me.) I miss them so much. Give them hugs for me. We’re hoping to make it out to Ithaca to visit them…you know, at some point. :/ Glad to know you are close by!

P.S. An “ed” fund is so worth it!
You just got me so excited! I missed the first meeting last Wednesday, but there is another one this upcoming week and Tara, we seriously live less than 10 minutes from her. Come visit!
