Hi Everyone.
I know–that was a long hiatus. I used the festival as an opportunity to have my macbook serviced and they kept it longer than I had anticipated. I’ve spent the last week writing blog posts in my head and then telling myself to chill out and relax into my technology free retreat. It was nice to take a break, but I’m back with a whole lot of enthusiasm, a new camera (that’s right!) and a notebook full of inspired dreams ready and waiting to be realized.
Some quick updates to bring you up to speed (and a glimpse into what I’ll be thinking and writing about):
*I had a wonderful visit with Megan. It was one of those perfect 18 hours where everything effortlessly works out. We saw the parade, had drinks listening to live funky jazz, laughed at old stories by a giant waterfall…it was amazingly wonderful. Appreciating where I live through a newcomer’s eyes reminded me of how much I have to be grateful for–I don’t want to take it for granted.
*My trusty camera broke right at the beginning of festival. As sad as I was to miss all the colorful photo-ops, it was worth it because Stone took me out on Monday for an early birthday present and I came home with a new Canon T1i! Devon, you were right–it has the HD video which I’m excited about because it’s great for capturing video with the kids. This is the most excited I’ve been about a “thing” in a long time! I’m excited to learn about my new kicks, improve my photography skills and best of all have the capability of documenting our journeys and projects and sharing our beautiful world with all of you.
*We moved all our cute little plants into big pots and window boxes. I was then so enthusiastic that we went back to the nursery to get more, because, really….can there ever be too many plants? I don’t think so. I took some great pics and will get them up this week to share the sunshine and the love.
*I spent the good part of Saturday afternoon drumming in a huge circle of music makers. Whenever I hear drums it’s inevitable that I will start shaking my hips until I’m right in the thick of it, holding my wedding ring in my mouth (because cute skirts don’t have pockets) and I don’t stop until my hands are swollen. Stone and my in-laws watched the boys and I am so thankful to have that time to myself. Drumming is a very grounding and sacred part of my life.
*Phishman Phil came over our house and walked us through some permaculture design ideas. We have the tiniest of urban lots, but we were talking roundhouses, stone planters, fruit trees growing up the side of the house, rain barrels and living roofs filled with strawberries and sedums! Phil and Stone are trying to convince me that we can dig a small pond, but I’m thinking that is a big idea for such a tiny yard. We know a few families who own homes or just bought land and I was thinking about organizing a home project co-op. I’ll keep you in the know as that happens and of course I’ll be taking pictures of the backyard makeover.
*I resubscribed to KitchenMuse which gives me weekly menus, shopping lists and prep guides for preparing traditional whole foods in season. I’ve been in a bit of a cooking rut, but I’m ready get things soaking, simmering and on the table; my family deserves it. CSA season is about to start and I need to stay organized and inspired to keep up with the massive amount of local, organic produce that is about to befall us.
*I finally claimed a corner of our small home for me. A small table, my sewing machine and a shelf filled with my treasures! I have a huge box of old clothes and scrap fabric waiting to be re-purposed. I also have some local hand-spun, hand-dyed on the needles for a special little girl whose turning one this July. I was inspired by The Artful Parent’s ‘Doorway into Summer’ and would like to do something similar with Solshine.
Hmmmmm…..I’m sure there is more, but it’s late and this mama has a 7 am Dan Zane’s dance party with two rowdy boys and a sandbox playdate at noon. Life is good.
