I had meant to have time to write this earlier or even last night, but we at Free Our Midwives were swept into a last minute, 24 hour, do or die grassroots movement.
In the last moments we learned that our midwifery bill was *not* expected to pass and if we had any hope of getting it out of the Higher Education Committee (necessary to move on) we needed to flood the entire committee with faxes, emails and phone calls. We had about 18 hours to activate.
Our months of hard work paid off and having everyone organized and in touch via social media paid off in a huge way. Jeanette, Lauren and I set up headquarters around Jeanette’s dining room table after all the kids were in bed and we roused and directed our facebook and Free Our Midwives tribes. We ourselves sent in hundreds of faxes.
When we asked an intern during a phone call this morning how many calls they had received in favor of the bill we learned that office alone had been contacted 150 times by 9:30 am! We got reports that the faxes were jammed! We raised enough of a ruckus that the bill was let through despite the odds.
Phew.
And all this on my 30th birthday!
What I wanted to do in honor of my birthday and in the spirit of Tara and Julianna was to brainstorm and get creative about 30 things I want/would like to see happen in this upcoming year.
Better late than never–I have a half-hour before my birthday ends!
30 for 30
This year I want to….
1. look my fears in the face
2. walk steadily towards my inspired visions
3. dream that anything is possible
4. live inspired
5. act confidently
6. stay mindful
7. say I’m sorry
8. breathe humility
9. fuel my creative fire
10. follow through
11. put myself out there
12. feel worthy
13. live rhythmically
14. know my children
15. ooze compassion
16. cry when I’m overwhelmed (instead of shouting)
17. ask for help
18. keep a comfortable home
19. stay organized with family and business
20. implement creative strategies
21. live off the job/cubicle grid
22. open channels of income
23. offer my gifts to the world
24. succeed
25. learn ALL the time
26. soak up life and learning like a sponge
27. continue to learn new skill sets
28. mother guilt-free
29. feel good about where I’ve been
30. feel good about where I’m heading
That felt amazing! Hello 30!
